Signs are starting to look up for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class heading into the fall. Texas is hoping to find more stability on the recruiting trail in the fall than during some of the summer months. While it’s hard to fault some of the results on the recruiting trail for the 2022 class since visit season first resumed back in June, there are some rather negative storylines that clouded this group.

A number of surprising misses, and the writing starting to emerge on the wall that the Longhorns could miss out on some of the top five-star targets for this 2022 class came about in the past six or eight weeks. Reversing that trend will be a main task at hand for Sark and his staff this fall.

The 2022 class is off to a good start, but there’s a lot still left to do before the Early Signing Period arrives.

One of those big looming tasks for the Longhorns staff in the 2022 class is shoring up the offensive line. New offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood has done pretty well with his group in the 2022 class, but there’s a few key targets that remain.

Two names that really stick out among offensive line targets in the 2022 class for the Longhorns are five-star Bowie OL Devon Campbell and four-star St. John Bosco interior offensive lineman Earnest Greene. The latter of those two prospects might be the top, and most realistic, out-of-state offensive line target for Flood at the Longhorns at this point of the recruiting cycle.

4-Star CA OL Earnest Greene coming to the forefront for Texas football

The Bellflower, CA, native is firmly in the crosshairs of what now looks to be two schools. The first school, and the one that most talk about in relation to Greene, is Ohio State. Head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes already have a Sep. 11 official visit on the books with Greene.

And Texas looks to get something officially on the books soon for a visit with Greene this fall. It shouldn’t be too long before something like that comes about.

According to a report from Inside Texas on Aug. 20 (paid content), the Longhorns still remain one of the top programs in consideration for Greene. It’s hard to ignore Ohio State as a potential frontrunner for him, but this Inside Texas report stated that Greene is “adamant about his interest” in Texas.

This Inside Texas report does mention that Ohio State is in fact the frontrunner with Green at the moment. It will definitely take a big push from Flood to get Greene’s interests back in favor of Texas this fall.

If Texas were to land a commitment from Greene, he would become not only the top ranked offensive lineman in the 2022 class, but the highest-ranked prospect overall. He ranks as the nation’s No. 61 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 interior offensive lineman, and No. 4 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite).

Texas is now up to 17 commits in the 2022 class. And the two commits in this class that play along the offensive line are three-star Westlake product Connor Robertson and four-star Frisco product Cole Hutson.
