Texas Football: 5-Star WR Evan Stewart had a good virtual visit this week
It is worth noting the rise in the rankings that a key target and former commit of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class got of late. The elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart was bumped up to be one of the top three ranked high school prospects in the nation for the 2022 cycle.
If Texas were to land a commitment from Stewart, that would likely make him the top-ranked prospect in the 2022 class no matter what. That shows just how important getting Stewart back in the mix is for new head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Sark and the Longhorns originally landed a commitment from Stewart back in February. But Texas was only able to hang onto his commitment for roughly one month. Now, the Longhorns look to remain in a mix of schools that will really be duking it out to win over his interests this fall.
Texas football gets important virtual visit in with 5-Star WR Evan Stewart
There is good news, though, for the Longhorns in pursuit of Stewart’s commitment. Although the Florida Gators seemed to be gaining a sizable edge of late in pursuit of Stewart, Texas still remains firmly in the mix.
And according to a report from Horns247 (paid content) this week, Texas coaches held a successful virtual visit with Stewart. This Horns247 report does note that it feels like a lot of momentum in Stewart’s recruitment has swayed to the Gators of late.
But this report also tabs all five schools as legit competitors that could sway Stewart’s interests this fall given how much attention he’ll get in the coming weeks and months.
Stewart did take one of his two official visits back in June with the Longhorns. The other was was with Florida (June 4). His official visit with the Longhorns came on June 18.
Texas will obviously be looking to get Stewart back to campus on a game weekend this fall, and he sounds interested in getting that on the books soon. Getting at least one visit in successfully this fall will be a good starting point for the Longhorns with Stewart. But that’s not all that’s needed.
Stewart needs to see this product show up on the field for the Longhorns to really move the needle with him.
Texas doesn’t have any five-star prospects in the mix yet in the 2022 class. Meanwhile, Stewart now ranks as the nation’s No. 3 2022 high school prospect, and the top overall wide receiver and prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
