The ongoing conversation regarding Texas football and the Oklahoma Sooners leaving the Big 12 for the SEC is one that won’t slow down ahead of the start of the 2021 season. Texas and Oklahoma are both roughly two weeks away from kick-off of the 2021 regular season (at least for their own programs).

We got to hear a noted former Oklahoma head coach, Bob Stoops, speak on the matter of the Longhorns and Sooners leaving the Big 12 for the SEC this week. Stoops talked on this subject in the Fox Sports “Big Noon Kickoff” preview show for the 2021 college football season this week.

It’s hard to avoid this subject right now, and Stoops had some interesting takes on the matter. He spoke on thinking that Texas and Oklahoma won’t’ face an overwhelming amount of bias leaving the Big 12 for the SEC, to how natural the transition could be for these two football programs.

Stoops said it well that once Texas and Oklahoma get on the field upon the move to the SEC, that it should be “business as usual”.

And on the matter of the bias he brought up for Texas and Oklahoma, he didn’t think the officials will really be compromised within conference play in the SEC. That makes sense since there wasn’t really any bias that the TCU Horned Frogs or West Virginia Mountaineers faced compared to the rest of the field in the Big 12 when the two teams joined the conference roughly one decade ago.

The SEC looks to welcome Texas and Oklahoma with open arms. It wouldn’t make much sense to put the pressure of this bias from the officials once the two programs join the mix.

Moreover, a lot of the comments we’ve heard from former coaches, players, etc. associated with these two programs make a lot of sense. This move will be big for the college sports landscape, but it won’t be too much for Texas and Oklahoma to handle.
