Few wide receivers in the entirety of the Big 12 got off to a hotter start last season than the former four-star recruit and redshirt junior wideout Joshua Moore. And it appears that Moore is headed in the right direction through fall camp thus far. Moore had a stellar outing in the second fall scrimmage, with three touchdown catches.

Following the departures of productive wide receivers from last season like Brennan Eagles, Jake Smith, Tarik Black, etc., Moore is by far the most productive returning wideout. The only other Texas wide receiver that racked up more than 200 receiving yards last season that is returning this fall is redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington.

And Sark and the Longhorns could have Moore and Whittington lining up as the two outside wide receivers. What could separate Moore from the rest of the group this fall is a system that will be designed to get him open more often this fall. He also should be more of a bona fide breakout candidate for the Longhorns since it’s more likely that he stays healthy than someone like Whittington.

Moore was given 20 contested catch attempts last season, and he did come down with seven of them. He also only dropped one of the 56 targets that went his way in the passing game.

With Sark’s ability to scheme his top skill position players open, Moore should be able to get a higher frequency of open targets in the passing game this fall compared to last. That should open up the world for him to be much more productive than during his sophomore campaign.
