Texas Football: 4-Star Earnest Greene a top priority for Kyle Flood
The 2022 Texas football recruiting class is starting to hit a critical point of this cycle entering the fall. New head coach Steve Sarkisian is starting to round out the 2022 class, along with preparing for the start of the upcoming regular season in less than two weeks. Texas has some needs to clear up in the 2022 class before the Early Signing Period arrives too.
Sark and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood are starting to prioritize rounding out this group in the trenches in the 2022 class. Texas has a couple of top targets along the offensive line that are close to must-gets for the coaching staff a few months ahead of the Early Signing Period.
A fast-rising target in the trenches for the Longhorns of late is the four-star St. John Bosco interior offensive lineman Earnest Greene.
4-Star Earnest Greene has quickly become a top priority for Texas football
Multiple reports of late signal how much of a priority Green has become for the Longhorns. One from Horns247 on Aug. 23 (paid content) indicates that Green is likely the second-highest priority target along the offensive line for Flood, Sark, and the Longhorns, behind the elite five-star Bowie offensive guard Devon Campbell.
The reason for such the high priority being given to Greene is the fact that he could occupy a spot at offensive tackle for the Longhorns in the 2022 class. If Greene does wind up giving his commitment to Texas when it’s all said and done, he might be the lone lineman that is switchable enough to play at one of the two tackle spots.
Greene has taken most of his snaps at St. John Bosco at offensive guard. But he does have the ability to switch to play tackle. He really has the capability to play anywhere along the offensive line, which would obviously be incredibly valuable to the Longhorns 2022 class.
If there is a pecking order for Greene with his top schools right now, Texas looks to fall in line right behind the Ohio State Buckeyes. Texas will have a true battle on its hands to beat out Ohio State this fall for Greene.
Yet, the next step in the recruitment of Greene needs to be getting him on the books for a big visit during a game weekend in Austin this fall. He’s currently scheduled with Ohio State to visit Columbus on Sep. 11.
Flood is the primary recruiter pursuing Greene, and this would be a massive win for him and the Longhorns as a whole. He’s battling it out specifically with Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa.
Texas currently has 17 commits in the 2022 class. Two of those 17 commits currently play along the offensive line, including four-star Frisco interior offensive lineman Cole Hutson and three-star Westlake interior offensive lineman Connor Robertson.
