Texas Football: 3 preseason transfer portal targets to watch for 2022
It’s never really too early to start talking about the NCAA Transfer Portal for the Texas football program, especially since there is already movement there for the 2022 offseason. Texas saw the former three-star wide receiver 2021 signee Keithron Lee suspended from the team earlier this offseason, thus he’s already part of the transfer portal class of 2022.
New head coach Steve Sarkisian did well in the transfer portal this offseason to plug some of the holes on each side of the ball. But there is likely to be more roster attrition next offseason thanks to the transfer portal. It might not be more movement than the average Power Five program, but the transfer portal just plays a huge role in the college sports landscape nowadays.
Texas football can already start piling up the transfer portal targets for 2022
More so now than ever before, the transfer portal has truly become a free agency for college sports. College football and hoops can especially see entire conference landscapes altered each and every offseason in this day and age.
Last offseason alone, Texas lost more than a dozen players to the transfer portal. That group of lost players for the Longhorns included noted names such as running back Keaontay Ingram, wide receiver Jake Smith, cornerback Jalen Green, and safety Xavion Alford, among others.
Texas also replaced almost all of those transfer losses, purely in terms of numbers, since the start of the 2021 offseason.
You can’t say that it’s ever too early to start looking at how the transfer portal landscape could play out next offseason, as there are already some key names available heading into the fall. Here’s a look at three early transfer portal targets to watch for the Longhorns ahead of the 2022 offseason.
