Texas Football: 3 preseason transfer portal targets to watch for 2022
Karon Prunty, CB
Here’s a name that some college football fans got familiar with in the transfer portal during the 2021 offseason. Former Kansas Jayhawks Freshman All-American and to-be second-year cornerback Karon Prunty is in the portal for the second time this summer.
Prunty originally transferred from Kansas after the coaching turnover from Les Miles to Lance Leipold.
The South Carolina Gamecocks originally landed Prunty back in late June, the first time he put his name in the transfer portal this offseason. But it took less than two full months for Prunty to wind up in the portal again.
Prunty put his name in the transfer portal again on Aug. 12, to the surprise of many associated with the South Carolina football program. South Carolina has done well of late developing cornerback talent, but Prunty apparently didn’t find a solid home there.
Maybe the next landing spot for Prunty out of the portal will be the right one for him. And a return to the Big 12 (at least for now) could be in the cards.
Texas could need help at corner next offseason, and Prunty would be an immediate solution that also helps over the long haul. He was spectacular for the Jayhawks last season, registering a whopping nine pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble, 26 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, and no sacks, over the course of nine games played.
Prunty would still have four years of eligibility remaining with the Longhorns were he to land on the Forty Acres. This would still be one to tread with caution, though, as he’s been a proven flight risk in the transfer portal.
