Texas Football: 3 preseason transfer portal targets to watch for 2022
Jordan Rhodes, OT
Another spot where Texas could be losing a lot of depth and key experience next offseason is in the trenches. Texas is laden with upperclassmen along the offensive and defensive lines. While that will be great this fall, that could be a lot to replace for the likes of Sark, new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, and new co-defensive coordinators Jeff Choate and Pete Kwiatkowski, next offseason.
There is one name to watch among offensive linemen in the transfer portal already. The second former South Carolina transfer on this list (granted this one actually played games with the Gamecocks) is the fifth-year senior offensive tackle Jordan Rhodes. The sizable and experienced 6-foot-4 and 345-pound tackle could make an immediate impact for Flood and the Longhorns next year.
Rhodes got most of his starts with the Longhorns two seasons ago. He only took eight snaps with the Gamecocks last season. But Rhodes held up well in passing blocking in the roughly 800 snaps he does have under his belt for his four years playing for South Carolina. Rhodes was also one of the highest-graded run blockers for the Gamecocks two seasons ago.
South Carolina originally recruited Rhodes as an offensive tackle, but nearly all of his snaps have come at one of the guard spots in his college career. If Texas is bound to lose the likes of Derek Kerstetter, Denzel Okafor, Christian Jones, Tope Imade, and maybe even Junior Angilau (if he declares early for the NFL Draft in 2022), then finding some immediate help in the form of a graduate transfer is a route worth considering.
