It was difficult to pick between three new Longhorns’ forwards/big men for the final spot on this list. You couldn’t completely miss picking a list of the best shooters for the Longhorns heading into next season between the former UMass Minutemen star sophomore center Tre Mitchell, incoming freshman forward Jaylon Tyson, and former Vanderbilt Commodores sophomore power forward Dylan Disu.

Yet, it is the latter of those three forwards/big men that should hold the edge in the end. Disu improved massively as a shooter from essentially all areas of the floor last season, compared to his true freshman campaign. In 17 games played with the Commodores last season, he shot 49.2 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.

That was good for an effective field goal percentage just shy of 56.0 and a 59.2 true shooting percentage.

It seemed to help Disu last season when Vanderbilt had him take roughly half the portion of three-point attempts that he did the prior year. Disu registered a three-point attempt rate of .359, compared to .755 during his freshman campaign.

And Disu only got better as last season moved along. He shot roughly 41 percent from beyond the arc in just under a dozen games in SEC play during the 2020-21 campaign. And according to Barttorvik, Disu shot better than 50 percent on jumpers from two-point range.

Longhorns fans should only expect Disu to get better heading into next season. The level of improvement he showed with his shooting numbers last season was truly impressive, especially as the season moved along.
