Texas Football: Jaylon Guilbeau set to visit for Louisiana game
The 2022 Texas football recruiting class is rolling right now for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. Texas landed two mammoth commitments just on Aug. 30 alone. Those two commitments came in the form of four-star Marlin (TX) defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe and four-star Ascension Catholic (LA) edge rusher J’mond Tapp.
That’s not to mention the big commitment that the Longhorns got on Aug. 26 from four-star Southaven (MS) defensive lineman Aaron Bryant. Texas managed to score a trio of talented blue-chip defensive line commits in a matter of just days since last weekend.
Yet, the parade of commitments might not be over soon for the Longhorns 2022 class. We’ll see how long Texas can ride this wave of momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2022 class.
One name that is coming back to the forefront of late for the Longhorns 2022 class is the former four-star cornerback commit and Memorial (TX) product Jaylon Guilbeau. Less than two months ago, Texas got the news of the decommitment of Guilbeau. But he has since taken an unofficial visit to Austin.

Texas is very much still in the running for Guilbeau, despite big pushes from the likes of the TCU Horned Frogs and Texas A&M Aggies of late. Guilbeau has also visited with TCU and Texas A&M on multiple occasions since June.
A piece from Horns247 on Aug. 31 (paid content) still predicts that Texas will be able to sign Guilbeau by the time it’s all said and done. But Mike Roach of Horns247 did warn that this could come down to whoever makes the biggest push largely between Texas and TCU.
While Texas A&M could remain in the running to land a commitment from Guilbeau, this should mostly be between the Longhorns and Horned Frogs.
And one of the main nuggets from this piece was the Guilbeau should be on campus this weekend for the critical season opener against the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. This could be a separating point for Texas in a huge game weekend in the regular season opener.
It will be key for Texas to continue to stay in close contact with Guilbeau this fall. TCU made a solid push of late, but this could still be Texas’ recruitment to lose. Guilbeau will be one of those highly prioritize prospects/former Texas commits this fall that will have a bright spotlight.
Texas very much still has a chance to win Guilbeau and fellow former commit/five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart over with some success on the field and sustained efforts on the recruiting trail. Finding success in the win column will be key for the Longhorns, though, to nab back some of these top blue-chip recruits.
Following the trio of commitments that the Longhorns landed for the 2022 class since the weekend, there are now 20 prospects in the mix. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 6 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners.
