Sarkisian feels Texas Football is ‘where he’s supposed to be’
New Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian is about to take part in his first game with this program in a little over 24 hours. No. 21 ranked Texas is set to take on the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at home on Sep. 4. Sark and his staff clearly won’t be getting any breaks from the get go this fall. Louisiana is one of the best Group of Five programs in the entire country, and that team will be a handful for Texas this weekend.
The attitude that Sark and the Longhorns take heading into this game will obviously be crucial.
If the attitude that Sark seems to have toward landing this Texas head coaching job in general is any indication of his team’s motivation level heading into Week 1, the Longhorns should be in a good spot.
In media availability this week, Sark spoke on the opportunity that he feels he has at Texas and how it stacks up with his past head coaching jobs. He noted that “there’s a level of appreciation for the opportunity” compared to his last two head coaching positions.
Sark also mentioned that he feels that Texas is “where he’s supposed to be”.
Texas football HC Steve Sarkisian liking the opportunity he has in Austin
There are a lot of positive words coming from the Longhorns players and coaches ahead of this critical Week 1 meeting with Louisiana. But the fact of the matter is that those won’t matter unless Texas puts it together on the field, leading to more success in the win column, this fall.
Moreover, Sark was the head coach for the Washington Huskies for five years from 2009-2013. He helped to revive that storied football program that was left dead in the water before he got there. Sark was essentially the transition head coach that picked up the pace for that program prior to the arrival of Chris Petersen.
And then, Sark was the head coach for the USC Trojans for a little under two seasons. He finished up with a record of 12-6 (.667 winning percentage) in his two years at USC. And he rounded out with a record of 34-29 (.540 winning percentage) from his five seasons at Washington.
If Texas is able to reach double-digit wins this fall, it would be the first time Sark was able to do so as a college head coach. He came close with the Trojans in 2014, but finished up one win shy of double digits.
Sark and the Longhorns are set to take on Louisiana at home on Sep. 4, with kickoff time set for 3:30 p.m. This will be the first opportunity for Sark to show what this program is made of under his leadership this fall.
