It is almost time for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and No. 21 ranked Texas football to take the field at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. Texas gets a very difficult matchup out of the gates this season against one of the best Group of Five teams in the entire country.
Head coach Billy Napier and his ultra-experienced Louisiana squad are on a mission this fall. Meanwhile, Sark and the Longhorns won’t get an easy win out of the gates in the first game under this new coaching staff. Not to mention that Texas is breaking in a new starting quarterback this weekend.
Texas enters this game against Louisiana as a little more than a one-possession favorite, by nine points. And the ESPN matchup predictor (based on the Football Power Index) gives Texas a whopping 87.1 percent chance to beat the Ragin’ Cajuns this weekend.
It feels like the tone of this game could be decided early on. Given how Texas is likely going to spark the offense with the ground game first, we can get an idea of how the battle in the trenches will go in this game from the very start of the first quarter.
