The win in the first game was needed for new Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian was delivered on the afternoon/evening of Sep. 4. No. 21 ranked Texas took on a challenging opponent out of the gates in the regular season opener this weekend at home against head coach Billy Napier and the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

It didn’t look like anything was going to come to Sark and the Longhorns easy to open up this crucial regular season slate. But Texas did pretty well to put together solid performances on all sides of the ball.

The only field goal that Texas missed was a 45-yard attempt from senior kicker/punter Cameron Dicker. But Dicker also nailed a 49-yard field goal later in the game. He also punted the ball well in this game, getting both of his attempts over 50 yards net.

Predicting that the Longhorns were going to come out as strong as they did, especially on the offensive side of the ball, was something that was difficult to do in some respect coming into this game. Texas had a lot of uncertainty on offense thanks to a new starting quarterback and a lack of returning production in the receiving corps.

The one certainty that Sark and the Longhorns did have coming into this game on offense was the backfield. Texas looks to have one of the deepest backfields in the entire country, spearheaded by star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson.

Texas came out fast in this game and didn’t let the Cajuns keep control much of the way. After Louisiana got out to a 3-0 lead, Texas never looked back. That was the only time in this game where the Cajuns led. This resulted in a win for the Longhorns in Sark’s debut, by the convincing final score of 38-18.

Here’s a look into three takeaways from this commanding 20-point win over Louisiana to open up the 2021 regular season.
