In his first action of the fall, star sophomore Texas football running back Bijan Robinson was electric for new head coach Steve Sarkisian out of the gates in a critical season opener meeting with the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. No. 21 ranked Texas faced up against head coach Billy Napier and his experienced Louisiana squad to try and get the Sark era off to the right start.

Sark and the Longhorns relied heavily upon Bijan out of the gates in this Sep. 4 meeting at home with one of the best Group of Five teams in the entire country in Louisiana. And it was a good start for Texas after a rather sluggish start on the first drive.

Once Texas got the likes of new starting quarterback and sophomore Hudson Card, along with Bijan, off and running this game went a lot smoother. By the time the fourth quarter began, Bijan had more than 160 total yards from scrimmage and two total touchdowns. He had a well-rounded day, but it wasn’t without one scare for the Longhorns faithful.

Texas football sees Bijan Robinson injure his leg in the second half vs. UL

Texas saw Bijan go down with a scary lower-body injury in the third quarter after a first down catch and run. He got up slowly after hyperextending his leg but was able to walk off the field under his own power.

It was good to see for the Longhorns that Bijan was back on the field for the following drive. Texas did turn over the ball-carrying duties more to the likes of junior running back Roschon Johnson and the former Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore transfer Keilan Robinson in the fourth quarter. But it was still a good sign that Bijan was running effectively again for Texas so soon after going down with that leg injury.

Bijan and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordan Whittington were the driving forces for Texas at the skill positions in this game against Louisiana. By the halfway point of the fourth quarter, Whittington and Bijan had combined for 10 catches for 183 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.
