A rather slow start to the game for the offense for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and No. 21 ranked Texas football against a very good and No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns team picked up later on in the first quarter. Texas got rolling behind a clutch drive from sophomore quarterback Hudson Card and sophomore star running back Bijan Robinson.

When Card, Bijan, and the Longhorns were down by just a field goal to head coach Billy Napier’s Ragin’ Cajuns squad in the first quarter, the offense came up with a good response. Card led the Longhorns down the field on an 11 play, 70 yard, scoring drive to get the first score of the game for this team.

The scoring play to end this drive was an 18-yard touchdown pass from Card to Bijan. This was the first passing touchdown of Card’s career in his first career start. And it was the third career receiving touchdown for Bijan. It was also the seventh career total touchdown for the former elite five-star recruit.

Bijan and Card essentially were the offense through the first couple of drives for the Longhorns. Just in the first dozen minutes of the game, Bijan registered 25 rushing yards on five carries (five yards per carry), two catches, 27 receiving yards, and one touchdown catch.

This will be a special play for Card and Bijan. The first career passing touchdown is something that the second-year signal-caller will remember for a long time.

And it wasn’t all Bijan on that drive for the Longhorns. Card had two key scrambles, including one that converted a fourth-down try in Louisiana territory. That is a good sign for Card as he looks to start calming down the nerves in his first career start.

All in all, it was a good play for Bijan and the Longhorns to get the first career passing touchdown for the new starting quarterback Card. There was broken coverage from Louisiana that allowed Bijan to walk right into the endzone unchallenged.

As of the end of the first quarter, this first career touchdown from Card gave Texas a 7-3 lead over Louisiana. We’ll see what the likes of Card and Bijan can do to continue to spark this Longhorns offense for Sark in his first game as Texas head coach on Sep. 4.
