Texas Football: Sarkisian says noise at DKR was ‘huge’ in win over UL
There were a lot of good notes that new Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian had following his team’s big season-opening win this weekend over head coach Billy Napier and the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. No. 21 ranked Texas came out firing after a sluggish first drive. Sarkisian had to like what he saw from his team on both sides of the ball after about the first five minutes of the game.
Sark and the Longhorns were barely more than one possession favorites over Louisiana coming into this game, and rightly so. Louisiana still looks to be one of the best Group of Five programs in the entire country. And Texas controlled this game most of the way in what amounted to a convincing 38-18 win over the Ragin’ Cajuns.
The postgame comments from Sark reflected just how good he feels about this Longhorns team following this 20-point win over Louisiana. Sark talked on the matters of the environment at home in this big season-opening win, the quarterback situation, some standout players, and this team’s mindset heading into the game.
Steve Sarkisian loved the environment that Texas football fans put together vs. UL
It was very notable how Sark felt about the environment given the fact that there’s so much excitement surrounding the football program right now. And having fans back at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium this fall is huge for the Longhorns given the limited capacity last season.
Sark noted in his postgame press conference that the environment DKR was a difference-maker for this team. It injected a lot of energy for the Longhorns, and Sark noted that “he loved it” following the win in a great environment at DKR this weekend.
He wrapped it all up by saying that “he loved the environment” talking about how this all happened, from the fans right down to the gameday staff and administration.
It’s hard not to be very excited about where Texas is headed under Sark and this new coaching staff. There were so many great takeaways from this win. But Texas will be put to the test again next weekend away from the friendly confines of DKR.
Next up for Sark and the Longhorns is that aforementioned road meeting with the longtime rival Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville on the night of Sep. 11. Texas will carry a 1-0 (0-0 Big 12) record into that matchup with Arkansas, who owns a record of 1-0 (0-0 SEC) following a Razorback win over the Rice Owls on Sep. 4.
