Texas Football: 3 problematic Razorbacks players for the Longhorns
Treylon Burks, WR
Don’t get fooled by the fact that Arkansas will run the ball at such a high frequency on offense. With new starting quarterback KJ Jefferson leading the way in the wake of the Feleipe Franks era in Fayetteville, this offense has another dynamic for new co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate to deal with.
But Texas will still have to worry about one of the more skilled and proven wide receivers in the SEC West this weekend in standout junior Treylon Burks. Although Burks didn’t get off to the strongest start for the Hogs against Rice, he’s still a threat to worry about for the Longhorns defense.
That aforementioned slow start for Burks saw him register just 42 receiving yards on five catches, no touchdowns, and two drops. It was one of the less impressive games that we’ve ever seen in three years from Burks.
With Burks looking to bounce back against Texas this weekend, it will be up to a slot corner to take on that assignment. Burks almost always lines up out of the slot for the Hogs, so there is a threat of a slot receiver for both teams. D’Shawn Jamison might slide over to cover him a bit, but he almost always plays on the outside.
More than likely, it will be Anthony Cook at the star position and Josh Thompson that can slide over to be more of a slot corner to cover Burks more often.
Nonetheless, Burks is a speedy and usually reliable slot receiver that can do a lot of damage in all phases of the game. Arkansas got Burks a combined 28 touches in the ground game and behind the line of scrimmage in the screen game last season. He’s going to touch the ball a lot this weekend if prior trends are any indication.
