Texas Football: 3 reasons the Longhorns can dominate Arkansas
Texas has Bijan Robinson and Jordan Whittington
With the Sark-offensive scheme that is so effective in getting top skill position players in the open field to make plays, this offense is great for the likes of Whittington and Robinson. Texas has a lot of insanely talented playmakers at the skill positions, and none look better at the moment than this duo of Whittington and Robinson.
In Week 1, Whittington and Robinson nearly combined for 300 total yards, and they tallied up three total touchdowns. Robinson proved to be a threat in the passing game as well as the ground game against Louisiana. Individually, he registered a career-best 73 receiving yards on top of more than 110 rushing yards (good for more than seven yards per touch) in the season opener.
Texas just needs to get the ball to these two with open space to run, and Arkansas’ defense will have a tough assignment on Sep. 11.
This also feels like a potential breakout scenario for true freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who will be starting on the outside for the second week in a row. Worthy was only targeted twice last week, and he came down with one of those passes for a 34-yard reception on a nice bump-and-go route on the outside.
Arkansas’ three-high safety look under defensive coordinator Barry Odom makes it so that Texas should have room in the middle of the field to get the ball to Whittington and Worthy. Most of the looks are likely to go to Whittington, especially if he’s not covered by one of Arkansas’ two experienced starting corners or Jalen Catalon. But Worthy should be able to shake some guys in coverage and get free between the numbers on some glance and post routes.
