Patience must win the day for Steve Sarkisian

There is usually one fairly tempered reaction that makes the list of overreactions following each Longhorns game. But there are a wide variety of reactions to the Sark coaching regime following this three-possession loss to Pittman and the Hogs. Sark was not a personal favorite of Longhorns fans this weekend following his delayed reaction to replace Card with Thompson.

In-game adjustments were definitely not a strong point for Sark’s staff or players this weekend. Arkansas overmatched Texas on both sides of the ball, and in multiple phases of the game, especially when Card was still in at quarterback.

We have to see better in-game adjustments from Sark and his coaching staff. Texas getting run over on the ground, lacking a true pass rush, and getting beat deep by an otherwise unproven passer in Jefferson is something that Pete Kwiatkowski needs to work on. And it will be up to Flood and Sark to get this offense right ahead of the meeting with Rice next weekend and the Big 12 opener against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Sep .25.

What did become clear in this game for Sark and his coaching staff is that this will take time for Texas to build itself up in the image that this new regime finds suitable. Texas wasn’t going to turn the page overnight. And while a loss of this magnitude is pretty inexcusable in this bright of a spotlight upon the move from the Big 12 to the SEC, it is a lesson of patience on the Forty Acres.

Next. Casey Thompson should be the Week 3 starting QB. dark

Sark and the Longhorns had a ton of hype coming out of the season-opening win over the Cajuns by an impressive 20-point margin. But Sark and the Longhorns now have to take a step back to consider what comes next for this football program following such a devastating loss on the road.
