Although it doesn’t look too likely to happen at this point, there really couldn’t be anything better that Sark and the Longhorns 2022 class could do than flipping the commitment of the elite five-star Mater Dei cornerback Domani Jackson. As the highest-rated commit in USC’s 2022 class, Jackson is about the most highly-coveted prospect that any top-tier program could flip at the moment.

Texas was reportedly one of multiple schools in contact with Jackson following the firing of Helton earlier this week. But that doesn’t look to have got Texas too far initially with Jackson this week.

As is the case with the fellow elite five-star cornerback and North Shore High School product Denver Harris, Texas will likely need to show the results on the field this fall to move forward with Jackson. And it wasn’t great for the Longhorns to fall short of Arkansas last weekend.

For Texas to work back in among the finalists to land the commitment of Jackson when it’s all said and done, impressing him enough with the efforts of the coaching staff and the potential of the program on the field is where the Longhorns need to go with him. Texas was one of the earlier schools on Jackson’s offer sheet, and we’ll see if that can ever be enough this fall.

The other top two schools to watch that look to still very much be in the running for Jackson are the Alabama Crimson Tide and Michigan Wolverines. Texas is facing an uphill battle here, but it’s still very much worth the effort with Jackson.
