With Texas starting to run lower on options to pursue at wide receiver in the 2022 class, there could be someone to watch that is currently committed to USC. Texas looks to be losing out on the elite five-star wide receiver target Kevin Coleman to the Florida State Seminoles this fall. That leaves an extreme amount of importance placed on the pursuit of fellow five-star wide receiver target and Frisco-Liberty product Evan Stewart.

Texas will need at least one more decent wide receiver commit in the 2022 class to keep a strong amount of depth at the position moving into the future.

This is where Texas pursuing an underrated in-state product like USC commit and three-star Hightower wide receiver Caleb Douglas could come into play. Helton and the Trojans made a late run on the recruiting trail to ultimately flip the commitment of Douglas from head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears back on Aug. 10.

Douglas’ recruitment looked to come down to the Virginia Tech Hokies and Baylor back in June. Those were the two schools he took official visits with more than two months ago. But USC made a good run to flip his commitment from Baylor’s 2022 class.

Although he isn’t the highest-rated prospect for the Longhorns to target for the 2022 class, Douglas could be a good backup option for this staff. Douglas ranks as the nation’s No. 707 2022 high school prospect, No. 104 wide receiver, and No. 103 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

Texas could at least do well to send him an offer in the coming weeks.
