Coming off a bad loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks and head coach Sam Pittman last weekend, Texas football and new head coach Steve Sarkisian will be looking to rebound in a well-timed matchup with the Rice Owls out of Conference-USA. Texas gets Rice in the final non-conference game of the regular season, at home on the night of Sep. 18.

This game does come at a good time for Sark and the Longhorns given how this team must rebound from a bad loss to Arkansas by a three-possession margin last weekend. Texas fell short to the Razorbacks by the final score of 40-21.

Moreover, there are some injuries that Sark and the Longhorns have to deal with this weekend. In media availability on Sep. 16, Sark spoke on the matter of the injury updates for Texas ahead of this final non-conference meeting of the regular season against Rice at DKR.

Texas football set to be without Troy Omeire and Jahdae Barron vs. Rice

Sark gave the update that the Longhorns will be missing sophomore cornerback Jahdae Barron and redshirt freshman wide receiver Troy Omeire against Rice this weekend. Omeire is still working his way back from another knee injury that he suffered a few weeks ago. He’s still waiting to make his Longhorns’ debut in game action.

And the Longhorns are set to miss Barron as Sark mentioned he’ll be out for at least two or three weeks. That likely means that Barron will miss the Big 12 opener against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Sep. 25.

These are some notable absences for Texas. Barron got more reps in the first two games for Texas this season than he did last year. It looked like he was starting to rise to a more prominent role this fall, so this injury news is a setback for him.

Meanwhile, there’s a lot of Longhorns fans that are still eagerly awaiting the college debut of Omeire. He missed the entirety of his true freshman campaign dealing with a season-ending knee injury.
