Texas Football: 3 players struggling mightily before Big 12 play
It’s not long before new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program open up the Big 12 slate. Texas begins Big 12 play this fall at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 25, in the late morning kickoff time slot, against head coach Matt Wells and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Sark and the Longhorns come into Big 12 play with a record of 2-1, following a dominant 58-0 win at home last weekend over the Rice Owls out of the Conference-USA. Texas also has a win over the No. 23 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at home and a bad loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks under their belt for the regular season thus far.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech comes into this Big 12 opener with a record of 3-0, following a win over the Florida International Panthers last weekend. Texas Tech also has wins over the FCS Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and Houston Cougars to start off the regular season.
Texas football has some starters that need to pick up the pace before the Texas Tech game
Although this is a very winnable game for Texas at home, it still won’t come easy against Texas Tech. This Red Raiders team looks pretty good this season under Wells with a lot of new faces that the program got out of the NCAA Transfer Portal last offseason.
That includes former Oregon Ducks transfer quarterback Tyler Shough, who is off to a solid start in his first year with Texas Tech this fall.
So, what are the main concerns facing the Longhorns entering Big 12 play? Some are issues facing certain players that are off to an unexpectedly slow start through three games.
Here’s a look at three Longhorns players that are struggling ahead of the start of Big 12 play that need to turn it around soon.
