There is a huge list of visitors for Texas football recruiting for the Big 12 opener for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his squad against head coach Matt Wells and the in-state foe Texas Tech Red Raiders at home. In an atmosphere that was expected to be electric in a late morning kickoff at DKR on Sep. 25, this was a nicely timed weekend to have an important list of visiting targets on the recruiting trail.

And one of the big visitors in attendance for Sark and the Longhorns this weekend in the Big 12 opener against the Red Raiders is one of the staple commits of the 2022 class. Touted four-star Junipero Serra quarterback Maalik Murphy is in attendance for the Texas Tech game this weekend, to try and help rally the support for the Longhorns 2022 class.

But this wasn’t the only notable event that the blue-chip Longhorns signal-caller commit attended this weekend. Murphy was also in attendance to watch the Clemson Tigers blue-chip quarterback commit and Westlake starter Cade Klubnik as this Austin high school took on Del Valle on Sep. 24.

4-Star Texas football commit Maalik Murphy has grown close with 5-Star Cade Klubnik

Murphy and Klubnik have reportedly (per 247Sports, paid content) grown closer with each other since the Elite 11 showcase over the summer. There was also a key Texas commit in action for Westlake in this meeting with Del Valle, with three-star interior offensive lineman Connor Robertson. But Robertson also exited the game with an apparent injury for Westlake.

Robertson should be fine as it was a noted shoulder tweak he dealt with in this game.

This looks to be a busy weekend for Murphy helping to recruit for the Longhorns 2022 and 2023 classes. He is on campus this weekend with the likes of fellow California native and five-star EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei, and five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins, among others this weekend.

Murphy is one of the top-rated commits in the Longhorns 2022 class at the moment. He ranks as the nation’s No. 119 2022 high school prospect, No. 10 quarterback, and No. 10 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite).

Meanwhile, the Austin native Klubnik gives Clemson a top quarterback commit in their 2022 class. Klubnik ranks as the nation’s No. 26 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 quarterback, and No. 8 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
