Texas Football: 4 overreactions from eruptive win over Texas Tech

An offensive explosion led to a big win for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program on the late morning/early afternoon of Sep. 25. In the Big 12 opener this weekend, Texas took on head coach Matt Wells and the Texas Tech Red Raiders at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and came away with a very positive result.

What we saw out on the field from Sark and the Longhorns this weekend was very encouraging, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Texas came into this game with a lot of question marks remaining, despite the dominant 58-0 win over the Rice Owls at home at DKR the previous weekend.

Following the win over Rice last weekend, Texas came into this Big 12 opener against Texas Tech with a record of 2-1. The Longhorns were also just over a one-possession favorite over the Red Raiders heading into this critical matchup at home.

But it didn’t take long for Texas to assert itself as the dominant team in Austin this weekend. Texas never fell behind Texas Tech in this game, and didn’t lose any of the quarters. This came out to a big win for the Longhorns over the Red Raiders in this Big 12 opener, by the final score of 70-35.

This was the first time that Texas put up a 70-spot on any team since the national title-winning season back in 2005. Texas had a special outing from the offense, and the defense was better than it was in the road loss to Arkansas more than two weeks ago.
