Two of the three five-star prospects on this list that are very much still on the Longhorns’ radar heading into the month of October are the elite wideout Stewart and five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens. Owens was committed to Texas for a bit longer than Stewart was, but not by much.
To this day, Owens is still the only prospect ever to be committed to the Longhorns 2023 class. And despite his de-commitment from Texas a few months ago, the Longhorns squarely remain in the running to get his pledge back in the near future.
In fact, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if Texas is able to do enough to seal the deal with Owens before the turn of the calendar year.
The list of schools that Texas has to worry about in competition to land Owens has narrowed a bit of late. Some of the other schools to watch in pursuit of Owens are the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas A&M Aggies, USC, and Alabama. Other schools that looked to be frontrunners at one time with Owens, such as Oklahoma and LSU, have dropped back in recent months.
It is worth noting that Owens had a recent visit to Georgia that looked to go extremely well. Georgia and Alabama might be the schools that are rising fast in his eyes. But the win for the Longhorns last weekend over Texas Tech looks to have made the right impression with Owens. Any visits that the elite in-state running back prospect takes to Texas this fall will be extremely impactful in his recruitment.
