Texas Football: Denver Harris ‘spent personal time’ with Sarkisian vs. Tech
Two absolutely crucial visiting targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class on the defensive side of the ball were on campus over the weekend for the Big 12 opener for new head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas faced head coach Matt Wells and the Texas Tech Red Raiders at home last weekend in the Big 12 opener with a number of big-time visiting prospects on campus. And Texas got this big win in an offensive eruption over Texas Tech, which came by the final score of 70-35.
This was the second straight dominant win for Sark and the Longhorns at home in which the offense absolutely exploded. And the defense showed some signs of life that were much needed after the humbling road loss more than two weekends ago at the hands of head coach Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Two of the aforementioned key defensive visitors that are also huge targets of the Longhorns 2022 class included the elite five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins and five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris. The latter of those two visiting prospects might be the most important 2022 recruit on campus last weekend too.

Perkins returned to the Forty Acres last weekend for a visit for the second straight game. It appears that Texas is definitely headed in the right direction with Perkins.
But there is a lot more uncertainty surrounding the status of Texas in pursuit of the commitment of the uber-talented Houston-area cornerback Harris. It was big for Texas to get Harris to campus last weekend, and it sounds like he came away impressed with what he saw in the win over Texas Tech.
According to a Horns247 report on Sep. 27 (paid content), Texas did well to improve its stock in the eyes of Harris over the weekend. It is also good to hear that Sark reportedly spent “personal time for about two hours after” the game with Harris.
Harris also reportedly got to spend some time with senior cornerback Josh Thompson, who had himself a nice game in the win over Tech. Thompson came away with a pick six for the Longhorns, the first in a few years for this secondary.
Texas is trying to keep pace with the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas A&M Aggies, and LSU Tigers, in the recruitment of Harris. It appeared for a while like Alabama was the emerging frontrunner for Harris. And that could still be the case.
Although, Texas looks to be holding up well now. This visit looks to be a success for the Texas coaching staff to try and move in the right direction with one of the most important remaining 2022 targets.
If Texas can’t get the commitment of the four-star Memorial corner Jaylon Guibleau in the 2022 class, then it is of paramount importance to try and get Harris in the mix. Texas doesn’t have a single blue-chip cornerback commit in the 2022 class at this point in time.
