Texas Football: 3 struggling players who must be benched
Entering the weekend of the Big 12 opener back on Sep. 25, new head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas football were looking to get off on the right foot and answer some of the question marks that emerged after the bad road loss to Arkansas. Granted, that road loss to Arkansas back on Sep. 11 doesn’t look so bad anymore for two reasons.
The first is that Sark and the Longhorns just didn’t have the quarterback situation figured out at that point. Now, some blame has to go back to Sark and his staff for not adjusting earlier in that loss to Arkansas to not move to redshirt junior quarterback Casey Thompson earlier in place of sophomore Hudson Card.
And then, the second reason why you can’t take too much stock out of that loss to Arkansas at the moment is the fact that head coach Sam Pittman just looks to have a really good team in Fayetteville this fall. Following Arkansas’ double-digit win over the SEC foe Texas A&M Aggies last weekend, it looks like the Razorbacks are for real.
Texas football still has some necessary depth chart adjustments to make ahead of Week 5
Nonetheless, Texas has a big test ahead this weekend as this team hits the road to travel to Fort Worth to face head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs on Oct. 2. Amon G. Carter Stadium is never really a friendly place for Texas to play in.
But Texas does have a lot of momentum coming off of the 70-35 win over Texas Tech at home last weekend. If Texas can finally get the monkey off their back by beating TCU on the road this weekend, Sark and his squad would have a ton of momentum heading into the Red River Rivalry game on Oct. 9.
Changes still need to be made, especially on the defensive side of the ball to properly adjust to face TCU this coming weekend. Some of those adjustments should come to the depth chart.
And with that in mind, here’s a look at three struggling Longhorns players that should hit the bench ahead of Week 5 against TCU.
