The 2022 Texas football recruiting class had a huge weekend in the Big 12 opener and win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders at home on Sep. 25. New head coach Steve Sarkisian hosted a double-digit number of prospects from the 2022 class, all the way up to 2026, over the weekend for the Texas Tech game.

But Texas will get the next couple of weekends off in terms of hosting prospects for Big 12 games. This coming weekend, Sark and the Longhorns are set to take on head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs on the road in Fort Worth. And then, the annual Red River Rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners lies on tap at the usual neutral site at the Cotton Bowl the following weekend.

It is still important to recognize the key recruitments for the Longhorns heading into the month of October. Next month will be an extremely impactful one on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns 2022 and 2023 classes. That is partially due to how big the weekend of the meeting with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, specifically on Oct. 16, could be for Texas in terms of the list of visitors.

Texas football pushing hard this fall with 4-Star ATH/S Kendrick Law

A key rising prospect to watch for the Longhorns 2022 class heading into October is the touted four-star Captain Shreve (LA) athlete/safety Kendrick Law. Texas is one of the dark horse schools to watch a few months out from the Early Signing Period in pursuit of Law’s commitment.

It does look like the top three schools for Law right now are the LSU Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, and Alabama Crimson Tide. But according to a report from Inside Texas (paid content from the On3 network), Texas is “heavily recruiting” Law down the stretch for this recruiting cycle to try and get him in their 2022 class.

This looks to be a tough task for the Longhorns to beat out the trio of Alabama, Florida State, and LSU, to get Law in their 2022 class. It could also be tough to get Law in the 2022 class thanks to the Longhorns already holding commitments from two blue-chip safeties.

The latter of those two challenges likely won’t be as lofty of a hurdle for this coaching staff to work past with Law than getting past the top schools at the moment in his recruitment. Texas will have to put in a ton of attention and effort, along with some impressive results on the field, in order to get more interest from Law in the coming weeks and months.

Florida State recently hosted Law for an official visit during the weekend of the matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, back on Sep. 5. Alabama also hosted a recent unofficial visit with Law back in June.

It is also worth noting that LSU looks set to host Law for a visit this coming weekend as head coach Ed Orgeron and the Tigers take on the Auburn Tigers.

If Texas were to land a commitment from Law, he would be the highest-rated athlete and/or safety prospect in the 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 88 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 athlete, and No. 6 prospect out of Louisiana (247Sports Composite).
