The starting wide receiver for the Longhorns that is off to the slowest start this season is redshirt junior Joshua Moore. As the most productive returning wide receiver for the Longhorns this year, expectations were high for Moore under the direction of the new head coach and offensive-minded Sark.

But through four games, Moore has just 63 receiving yards on seven catches, with no receiving touchdowns. Through four games last season, Moore had more than 300 receiving yards and a whopping six touchdown catches.

There’s still reason to believe that Moore can bounce back this fall. But it’s not great that he is coming into this TCU game with an ankle injury that he suffered in practice this week. Moore will be available for the Longhorns in this game, but it’s hard to know how much this ankle injury will hold him back.

Moore was already struggling to find any sort of production with the Longhorns early this season. This likely won’t help anything.

And you can’t really fault Moore for the slow start this fall. He’s just not getting targeted as much in the passing compared to last season. Jordan Whittington, Bijan Robinson, and Xavier Worthy are eating up a lot of the targets he would get otherwise.

It will be interesting to see if Sark continues to turn to Marcus Washington for more reps in place of Moore this weekend. Washington has continually gotten more and more playing time this fall under Sark compared to year’s past.
