Two notable cornerbacks are out for Pete Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns against TCU this weekend. And while missing sophomore corner Jahdae Barron is the less impactful of the two players missing at this position this weekend, this is still very notable.

Barron was starting to come on this fall as one of the better cornerbacks among this position group for Texas. With senior corner and preseason All-Big 12 selection D’Shawn Jamison falling short of expectations in the first few weeks of the regular season, it was nice to see backups like Barron and former McNeese State transfer Darion Dunn step up.

The hope at this point is that Barron will be back for the Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry game in a little more than one week against the Oklahoma Sooners. It already hurts enough for the Texas secondary that Barron missed two key games against Big 12 foes with potent passing offenses. Hopefully, this will be the last game he misses this season.

Barron was targeted five times through the first two games in pass coverage assignments, and he allowed only two completions for 10 yards and no touchdowns. He doesn’t have any missed tackles on the season either and he’s allowed an NFL QBR of less than 48.0 on the passes that went his way.

Texas is facing a TCU receiving corps that features talented wideouts such as senior Taye Barber and sophomore Quentin Johnston. This secondary can use all of the help it can get after all the deep balls that Texas Tech gashed them with last weekend.
