Texas Football: 3 reasons the Longhorns will dominate TCU
TCU offensive line can falter in pass protection
TCU looks like they are exposed in the middle of the offensive line. That is likely the weakest spot for this team in the trenches on offense. And that is something that Texas can use to take advantage of them. But for that to happen, the Longhorns have to continue to get better pushes along the defensive front.
The good news here is that Pete Kwiatkowski was able to generate a lot more pressure on the passer against the Texas Tech Red Raiders last weekend compared to the previous few games this season. Texas looks to be trending up at the right time this fall in terms of generating an effective pass rush.
Texas is seeing the likes of Alfred Collins, Moro Ojomo, and Barryn Sorrell, come on at a great time for this defensive line.
In the middle of the TCU offensive line, Texas can look to generate big pushes against the likes of senior center Coy McMillon, senior offensive guar Wes Harris, and sophomore offensive guard John Lanz. The starting center and two guards for the Horned Frogs are three of the four lowest graded linemen in pass blocking among seven regulars in the rotation this fall.
McMillon, Harris, and Lanz let up a whopping eight quarterback pressures just between the two games against the SMU Mustangs and Cal Golden Bears.
Texas can generate a lot of pressure and get some run stuffs up the middle just by attacking the weakest spot of the TCU offensive line. When Texas did wreak havoc last season on TCU starting quarterback Max Duggan, it largely came up the middle. McMillon had the worst game of his career in terms of pass blocking grade in TCU’s win over Texas in 2020. That is an exposed spot for Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns to attack this weekend.
