Texas football ‘has reached out’ to 4-Star USC QB commit Devin Brown
Heading into a critical point of this cycle for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, there appears to be a new found emphasis placed on finding a second quarterback to add behind four-star commit and Junipero Serra signal-caller Maalik Murphy. One target that appears to be emerging on the radar of new head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee is a current commit of the USC Trojans.
Four-star USC commit and Corner Canyon quarterback Devin Brown has seen a resurgence in schools reaching out to him of late. That really started happening since USC fired now-former head coach Clay Helton last month.
The one reason to believe, above all else, that Brown will remain committed to USC is the fact that Graham Harrell looks to remain the offensive coordinator there moving forward. Harrell was the primary recruiter after Brown. And he’s likely to remain a key piece in keeping the commitment of Brown with the Trojans.
Texas football has a rising QB target in 4-Star USC commit Devin Brown
Two major indications that Brown’s recruitment is still open are a couple of visits he booked of late. He took an unofficial visit with the BYU Cougars back on Sep. 18. And he’s got an official visit scheduled with head coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels on Oct. 8.
Texas actually has yet to offer Brown, but that could be coming in the not too distant future. If Texas really wants to make a move here, offering Brown has to come soon.
Any major moves that are to come from the Longhorns with Brown would be indicated by an official offer going out to him.
According to a report from Inside Texas of the On3 network (paid content) this week, Texas has “reached out” to Brown in the weeks since Helton was fired at USC. Brown is reportedly “keeping his options open” with some of the turnover going on with the USC coaching staff right now.
If there was a time for Texas to get a truly touted blue-chip target to add alongside Murphy in the 2022 class, now is it with Brown. Murphy is actually rated slightly lower than Brown, which would make for an interesting development if Sark and Milwee landed these two in the 2022 class.
The Utah native and 6-foot-3 and 190-pound Brown is a talented quarterback with a big arm and underrated mobility. Some of the other schools to watch in his recruitment moving forward are Ole Miss, BYU, the UCLA Bruins, and Cal Golden Bears, among other rising programs.
Not only is Brown one of the more touted quarterbacks that Texas could go after in the 2022 class right now, he is one of the highest-rated in the entire country for this cycle. He ranks as the nation’s No. 95 2022 high school prospect, No. 8 quarterback, and the top prospect out of Utah (247Sports Composite).
