Mikal Harrison-Pilot, ATH/S

Although he was on campus in College Station last weekend for a visit with head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies, it still looks like the Longhorns were able to make the right impression with the talented four-star Temple (TX) safety/athlete Mikal Harrison-Pilot. As a prospect that got mixed levels of attention from the Longhorns coaching staff since the summer, it appears that Harrison-Pilot is starting to become a mainstay among top prospects for the 2023 class.

It also helps for the Longhorns that Texas A&M was upset at home at Kyle Field by the Mississippi State Bulldogs and head coach Mike Leach. Texas didn’t look great in their three-possession road loss to head coach Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks a few weeks ago. But now that Texas A&M has lost two straight to Mississippi State and Arkansas, that could help Texas a bit on the recruiting trail with prospects like Harrison-Pilot.

Harrison-Pilot reportedly (per 247Sports) stated after the win over TCU that he thinks this is a “big win for UT” and that he loves the way that this team is playing on both sides of the ball right now. If the Texas coaching staff continues to prioritize Harrison-Pilot, this is some momentum that could build in the coming weeks and months.

Texas does look to sit behind some competing schools on the recruiting trail with Harrison-Pilot right now such as the Michigan Wolverines, Baylor Bears, and Texas A&M. He’s visited each of those schools since the summer, and has continued attention from those coaching staffs.

Texas does have a lot of work to do, though, with Harrison-Pilot after the loss to Arkansas. And that is because he was one of the key prospects in attendance for that game back on Sep. 11 in Fayetteville. It will be important to have a good game against Oklahoma this weekend to continue making the right impression with Harrison-Pilot.
