The amount of crossover on the recruiting trail between the Texas football program and the rival Oklahoma Sooners is pretty insane. But that is the nature of how it goes on the recruiting trail for the likes of Texas with competing programs such as the Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, USC Trojans, Oklahoma, etc.

Texas commonly competes with some blue bloods on the recruiting trail. And that will hold true through the fall for the Longhorns 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes.

As new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns get set to take on head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Sooners in the annual Red River Rivalry game this weekend, the battle on the recruiting trail will push on too. Texas is set to host multiple top 2022 and 2023 prospects this weekend for Red River since they are technically the home team.

But this process of hosting prospects at a neutral site without any in-person contact is not new to Texas or Oklahoma in Red River. While it will play a big part of how Texas’ fortunes shape out on the recruiting trail for the rest of the year, this is something that goes back a long way.

A number of Sooners players were recruited hard by the Longhorns, and vice versa. It is still worth noting which players could have an extra chip on their shoulder this weekend, though, by facing a team in Texas that also recruited them really hard.
