It was not all that long ago that the former touted four-star Denton-Ryan athlete prospect Billy Bowman was one of the highest-rated commits in the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class. At one time, the five-star teammate of Bowman’s and fellow Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders were the highest rated commits in the 2021 class. But that time faded last fall for the Longhorns.

Former head coach Tom Herman lost the commitment of Bowman last fall at a time when it felt like the sky was falling on the 2021 and 2022 classes. Texas lost commitments from the likes of five-star Southlake Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers and four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson in the 2022 class. And the key loss to the 2021 class was Bowman.

Roughly one month after Bowman de-committed from the Longhorns, he flipped to the Sooners. He would later sign with the Sooners 2021 class and enroll early to participate in spring ball.

A lot of players on this Texas team will likely be paying particular attention to what Bowman does on the field in Red River this weekend. The way that Bowman flipped so quick to the rival Sooners is likely something that at least a few of the signees in the Longhorns 2021 class won’t soon forget.

Nonetheless, Bowman is off to an impactful start playing in the secondary for Oklahoma. He’s one of the higher-graded freshman defensive players for the Sooners this fall. Bowman has already played in 160 snaps for Oklahoma in five games, where he’s registered 11 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble.
