Texas Football: Worthy’s success means Evan Stewart is a ‘perfect fit’
As potentially the top target remaining for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class this fall, the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart is really a prospect worth watching in the coming weeks and months. And Stewart is going to be squarely on Texas’ radar for the next two weeks given his upcoming visit schedule.
Stewart is set to visit for the annual Red River Rivalry game this weekend against head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners. But that visit this weekend for Red River against Oklahoma doesn’t allow for any in-person contact with the coaching staff.
Given that, it is very important to watch the visit that Stewart has on the books with the Longhorns for the Oct. 16 game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at home. That game weekend against the Pokes on Oct. 16 is building to potentially have the most important list of visiting prospects of the entire season.
We are likely to see the Longhorns players, commits, and coaching staff putting the full-court press on Stewart over the course of the next two weeks. That includes a pitch from the former Michigan Wolverines commit and true freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Per Horns247, the way that new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are using Worthy this fall means that they’ve found “the model for Stewart”.
Texas football has a model for success for prospects like Evan Stewart, shown by Xavier Worthy’s production
It is true that Texas has found a lot of success with the 6-foot-1 and 165-pound Worthy out of the gates this fall. Outside of some bad drops in the win over the TCU Horned Frogs last weekend, Worthy and redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington are the best wideouts out of the gates for Texas.
So far this season, Worthy registered 16 catches for 270 receiving yards (16.9 yards per catch), with four touchdown catches.
Worthy and Stewart also have similar builds, as insanely quick and wiry wide receivers that can be a threat from all over the field. Both are extremely fast and agile, which was the prototypical wide receiver that Sark built his offense around during his time as the Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator prior to him landing the Texas head coaching job back in January.
Stewart stands at 6-foot and 175-pounds. He is a little bit heavier than Worthy was coming out of high school. But both have similar builds and skill sets, which Texas is already proving they can get production out of at the wide receiver position.
It will be huge for the Longhorns to make the right impression with Stewart over the course of the next two weeks. Get a big win or two over the Oklahoma schools on Oct. 9 and 16, and Texas will do a lot to establish itself as the frontrunner in the race to land a commitment from Stewart.
