Xavier Worthy, WR

It goes without saying that hopefully we never see another performance from the uber-talented true freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy like we did last weekend in the win over the TCU Horned Frogs, in terms of drops. Worthy didn’t have any drops in the first four games of his career. And then, the TCU game happened.

Worthy had two bad drops last weekend that were costly, especially on one late first-half drive.

But that game feels like more of a misnomer for Worthy than a sign of things to come. He was a sure-handed blue-chip wide receiver prospect coming out of high school, and he was sure-handed to start out his true freshman campaign with Texas.

Texas should still largely rely on the explosiveness and elusiveness in the open field between the wide receiver duo of Worthy and redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington to power this passing game throughout Big 12 play. And what Worthy was building to in the three games leading up to TCU last weekend was nothing short of special for a true freshman.

Worthy had six missed tackles forced, eight first downs, more than 125 yards after the catch, 211 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns, in the three games prior to TCU. If Worthy can forget about last weekend and get his mind right for Red River, he should be a load to deal with for the Oklahoma defense on Oct. 9.
