How to watch Texas football vs. OU: TV, live stream, game time, pick
New head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program will take the field to embark on what could be the most important game of the regular season. Texas is set to take on the Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Lincoln Riley in the annual Red River Rivalry game, with kickoff set for the morning of Oct. 9.
This will be the first time that Sark and Riley meet as head coaches of any respective college football program. And the last time that the Longhorns beat the Sooners in general was in 2018. Texas will be looking to snap its two-game losing skid to the Sooners this weekend. Meanwhile, Oklahoma will be looking to extend the winning streak to three games.
Texas is coming off a close win last weekend over head coach Gary Patterson and the stingy TCU Horned Frogs, by the final score of 32-27. Following that win over TCU, Texas comes into Red River sporting a record of 4-1 (2-0 Big 12).
Meanwhile, Oklahoma comes into this game with a record of 5-0 (2-0 Big 12). In their last game, Oklahoma got by the Kansas State Wildcats, by the final score of 37-31. But that score can be misleading, as it was closer than the pace of the game dictated otherwise.
Entering this game, Texas is a 3.5-point underdog to Oklahoma and the over/under is set at 63.5 points. And the ESPN matchup predictor (based on the Football Power Index) gives Oklahoma a little more than a 56 percent chance to beat Texas this weekend.
Here’s a look at the live stream, kick off time, pick for the game, and more as Texas takes on Oklahoma in Dallas in Red River on Oct. 9.
How to watch/live stream Texas football vs. OU
Texas and Oklahoma kick off at 11 a.m. CT at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas Oct. 9. Here’s more on the live streaming/TV channel information for this weekend’s matchup vs. Oklahoma.
TV: ABC
Live Stream: WatchESPN/FuboTV
Radio/Audio Stream: Longhorn Radio Network
For the third straight weekend, Texas gets one of the big-time 11 a.m. kick off time slots. And this is yet another weekend where the Longhorns will be broadcast live in front of a national television audience on ABC.
Injured Texas football players
The injury report is thankfully shorter for the Longhorns this weekend compared to the last couple of games.
The most noteworthy of the new additions to the injury report this week is the senior offensive tackle Denzel Okafor, who will miss the rest of the season following an injury he suffered in last weekend’s win over TCU. That will be a large hole to fill for the Longhorns with Okafor out for the season.
We are likely to see a lot of Andrej Karic in place of Okafor this weekend. Hayden Conner and Tope Imade are two other names to watch that could get some reps in place of the injured Okafor.
There is good news for Texas in the fact that senior cornerback Josh Thompson looks set to return this weekend against Oklahoma. Thompson missed the TCU game last weekend with a concussion he suffered in the week of practice leading up to the contest.
We could still see fellow senior cornerback and former McNeese State grad transfer Darion Dunn get some reps this weekend. But his snaps should flatten out a bit with Thompson coming back into the mix against Oklahoma.
Some of the other injuries of note this weekend include cornerback Jahdae Barron, tight end Brayden Liebrock, wide receiver Troy Omeire, and cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem. Barron is still dealing with an upper-body injury.
While it is detrimental to see Barron out for this game, Thompson will help fill a gap that was left in the secondary last weekend for Texas.
Picking Texas football vs. OU
Texas has a three-game winning streak dating back to the non-conference finale for the regular season, in a win that came over the Rice Owls back on Sep. 18. But this will be a different type of test for the Longhorns against the No. 6 Sooners.
Oklahoma finally started to look like themselves in the win over Kansas State in Week 5, which isn’t great news for the Longhorns. But Texas can still ride the likes of Bijan Robinson, Casey Thompson, Jordan Whittington, Xavier Worthy, Roschon Johnson, etc. to success on offense this weekend.
There will be a real test for this defense to see if they can take advantage of the inconsistent Oklahoma offensive line. Texas should be able to control the game on the ground, but they have to take command early on. That’s tended to be a key to success for most of the season.
This feels like the type of game that will be a one-possession contest either way. It also feels like a tough one for the Longhorns to come out on top of in the end.
