In a game that was really hard to watch for fans of No. 21 ranked Texas football saw new head coach Steve Sarkisian collapse in the second half. You can’t blame all of this loss on one person, or source. But there has to be a lot of blame that falls back on the shoulders of the coaching staff for such a lackluster performance in the second half in a huge rivalry game.

On the late morning/afternoon of Oct. 9, Sark and the Longhorns took on head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners in the annual Red River Rivalry game. Texas looked great from the outset of this game, only to completely collapse in the second half.

This game wound up seeing the largest comeback win by the Sooners in the modern history of the Red River Rivalry game. That’s not what Sark and the Longhorns were looking for heading into a critical matchup that could’ve set this team apart atop the Big 12.

And that is the toughest part about this loss to Oklahoma. Texas was very close to proving that it is the top team in the Big 12 at this point of the season. But since this win couldn’t be closed out down the stretch, the Longhorns are left looking for answers once again.

While this was a loss very different in nature to the one the Longhorns suffered at the hands of the Arkansas Razorbacks on the road back on Sep. 11, it leaves a similar taste in the fan’s mouths. Texas needed this one to really prove that this program is making strides this fall. And this effort fell short in heartbreaking fashion in the end. Texas fell short to Oklahoma by the final score of 55-48.

Here’s a look into five takeaways from this crippling loss that saw the Longhorns collapse in the second half at the hands of the Sooners.
