There’s no way to look but forward

No single Longhorns offensive player in this game embodied the ups and downs that the entire team experienced in this collapse at the hands of the Sooners quite like true freshman breakthrough wide receiver Xavier Worthy. An insane day from Worthy saw him come up with north of 250 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.

That sounds like a huge day for Worthy in the receiving game, and it was. But Worthy also coughed up the ball on one of the costliest plays of the game for the Longhorns. Special teams gaffes have remained costly for the Longhorns in the two losses on the season so far.

A botched punt from senior kicker/punter Cameron Dicker in the loss to Arkansas helped swing momentum firmly away from Texas in that game in Fayetteville. And it felt like any shot that the Longhorns had left in the fourth quarter really decimated following the kickoff return muff by Worthy. That would lead to an Oklahoma touchdown that would put them at 48 points.

Nonetheless, there is still nowhere to look but forward for Texas. In-season progression can only go so far for this team. But Texas has showed a legitimate ability to compete for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game.

It’s hard to be positive following this type of loss to Oklahoma. But there’s not a whole lot of time for the Longhorns to regroup as they’ve got another tough test against a top-15 ranked Oklahoma school on tap for next weekend. Get a rebound win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys at home on Oct. 16, and the season could almost be back on track for Sark and the Longhorns.
