Texas Football: Jordan Whittington leaves OU game with elbow injury
A really unfortunate second half thus far for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and No. 21 ranked Texas football has amounted to a huge comeback for head coach Lincoln Riley and the No. 6 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. Texas needed to put together at least a few decent drives to put Oklahoma away in this game, and it’s not like this team didn’t have the opportunities.
And matters went from bad to worse in the second half for Sark and the Longhorns with an injury on a third-and-long play to explosive redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordan Whittington. On a play where redshirt junior quarterback Casey Thompson tried to step up in the pocket and hit Whittington to at least get the ball closer to the sticks, the wideout came up with what looked like an upper-body injury.
It looks like that is exactly what happened to Whittington on that play. He came up slowly from that play holding his arm. It looked like Whittington over-extended himself, leading to this apparent upper-body injury.

Whittington would eventually leave the Texas sideline in the fourth quarter and head to the locker room with an apparent elbow injury. We will continue to monitor the status of Whittington as more injury news comes down in this game.
This Texas offense largely sputtered out of the gates in the second half. After taking a sizable three-possession lead into the locker room at halftime, the Sooners made a huge second-half rally to tie the game up about halfway through the fourth quarter.
Before exiting this game with an injury, Whittington came up with three catches for 35 receiving yards and no touchdowns. He didn’t play a huge role in this game, but he is one of the biggest weapons in the passing game for Thompson.
Texas is currently behind the Sooners by a score of 48-41 in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma is in the midst of pulling off a sizable second-half comeback against the Longhorns in Red River.
