You couldn’t ask for much more out of the start for the Texas football program and new head coach Steve Sarkisian in the annual Red River Rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners than this team got off to. Texas had a 14-0 lead over the rival Sooners and head coach Lincoln Riley before you could even bat an eye.

A blocked punt thanks to senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown gave the Longhorns tremendous field position to allow star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson to cap off a really quick drive to put the team up 14 points. But then, it was redshirt junior wide receiver Joshua Moore and redshirt junior quarterback Casey Thompson that really helped the Texas offense have an explosive first quarter.

You can’t ask for much more out of Moore individually for what he did for the Longhorns early on.

Moore caught his first touchdown pass of the season in the first quarter, to get the Longhorns up 21-7. Moore caught the ball on a nice play-action call from Sark, in which Thompson threw a nice pass in the end zone.

But it was a huge 48-yard deep ball from Thompson to Moore that really helped to take the top off of the Oklahoma defense for the Longhorns. It was a perfect throw from Thompson to Moore for 48 yards to get the junior wideout two touchdowns on two straight possessions.

Texas really didn’t get Moore very involved in the passing game in the first five games of the season. He got off to a red hot start last season and was the most productive returning wide receiver for the Longhorns this fall.

It was redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordan Whittington and true freshman stud Xavier Worthy that got most of the work in the passing game for Sark and the Longhorns to start the season. But that surely changed in the first quarter against the Sooners.
