A crippling loss, thanks to a massive second-half comeback by head coach Lincoln Riley and the No. 6 ranked Oklahoma Sooners, served up a really bad loss to No. 21 ranked Texas football and new head coach Steve Sarkisian on the afternoon of Oct. 9. The result that Texas got out of the Red River Rivalry game this year was one of the most disheartening in recent memory for this program.

Sark and the Longhorns were beaten by a score of 45-40 after the first quarter in Red River against the Sooners this weekend. The way that Texas could not take any opportunity they had to close out the Sooners in the second half, to ultimately fall short by the final score of 55-48, was pretty inexcusable.

Texas had the opportunity to solidify themselves as the best team in the Big 12 at this point of the season with a win over Oklahoma. This was also a huge game for Sark and the Longhorns to get through the biggest gauntlet stretch of the Big 12 schedule unscathed.

Texas football undergoes another heartbreaking loss to the Sooners in Red River

But now, the Longhorns will head into another critical showdown against the other Oklahoma school needing to bounce back in a big way. Texas now carries a record of 4-2 (2-1 Big 12) into this meeting at home on Oct. 16 with head coach Mike Gundy and the No. 12 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Not only does this loss to Oklahoma hurt in the fashion in which it came for Texas, but Red River just tends to always end in heartbreak now for Longhorns fans. Texas still has to look forward, though, as there is still a legit shot to get a rematch with the Sooners in the Big 12 Championship Game this year.

With that in mind, here’s a look into five overreactions from the Longhorns’ crippling collapse of a loss to the Sooners in Red River this weekend.
