Texas football ‘continues to work to flip’ 4-Star CB Terrance Brooks
One of the more interesting recruitments for new head coach Steve Sarkisian, cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph, and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class during the summer months involved the touted four-star Little Elm cornerback Terrance Brooks. Current Ohio State Buckeyes commit and former John Paul II (Plano, TX) product Brooks looks to be someone that Texas continues to prioritize this fall.
Brooks committed to Ohio State over other top schools such as the Longhorns, Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Oregon Ducks, back on June 30, 2021. He committed to Ohio State a little more than one week after his last official visit he’s taken thus far to Columbus (happened on June 21).
He also had official visits with Texas and Alabama in mid-to-late June when the in-person contact dead period lifted back in early summer last offseason. Brooks also had visits with Oregon and Florida earlier in the month of June.
Since his late June commitment to Ohio State, Brooks has largely remained stuck to head coach Ryan Day and that Buckeyes staff. He’s built a good relationship up with second-year Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs.
Texas football still working hard to keep 4-Star CB Terrance Brooks a priority
But this is a recruitment that the likes of Joseph and the Longhorns, and former Texas cornerbacks coach Jay Valai and the Crimson Tide, continue to work on. According to a report from Horns247 on Oct. 13 (paid content), Texas “continues to work to flip” Brooks this fall.
It sounds like Brooks continues to remain a top priority for Sark, Joseph, and the Longhorns this fall among prospects that are currently committed elsewhere. That is an important storyline to watch this fall, as Texas reportedly has some level of intrigue from Brooks. But it also sounds like Texas needs to make a near-perfect impression with Brook now. It might not be too long before he shuts his recruitment down officially ahead of the Early Signing Period.
Texas is looking to replace the former four-star cornerback commit and Memorial product Jaylon Guilbeau as the top prospect at this position in the 2022 class. Brooks was one of the top cornerback targets in general for the Longhorns 2022 class heading into the summer. And Texas looks to continue to keep him and the elite five-star Northshore product Denver Harris as the top priorities at the cornerback position this fall.
Brooks was in person for a visit for the annual Red River Rivalry game last weekend as Texas fell heartbreakingly short to head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners. It sounds like Texas still made a pretty good impression on Brooks last weekend, which could generate some positive momentum in communication with him this fall.
