The loss for No. 25 ranked Texas football and new head coach Steve Sarkisian over the weekend at the hands of the No. 12 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys and head coach Mike Gundy was a terrible look. For the second straight weekend, Texas underwent a massive second-half collapse that caused the team to have even slighter odds to make it to the Big 12 Championship Game this year.

Sark and the Longhorns once held a comfortable double-digit well into the second half against Oklahoma State at home on Oct. 16. But Texas couldn’t close out this game when they had multiple opportunities to do so over the weekend.

The last comfortable lead that the Longhorns held in this meeting with the Pokes was at 24-13 in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma State would eventually score 19 unanswered points in the second half, though, to get the win over the Longhorns by the final score of 32-24.

This loss really hurts for Sark and the Longhorns heading into the first real bye week of the season. Texas needed a strong bounce-back performance following the other second-half collapse this season, which came at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners and head coach Lincoln Riley in the annual Red River Rivalry game back on Oct. 9 by the final score of 55-48.

With how many top recruits Texas had visiting last weekend for the Oklahoma State game, this loss is really untimely for the Longhorns. This is something that could greatly impact the Longhorns on the field and on the recruiting trail moving forward.

Media goes after Texas football and Steve Sarkisian after loss to the Pokes

Following this loss to the Pokes, Texas was expectedly gashed in the media. Social media was not a great place for the Longhorns after each of these two losses at the hands of both of the Oklahoma schools.

The memes, GIFS, and jokes from around the college football media landscape came in bunches during and after this meltdown happened in the loss to the Pokes. It ranged from comments, once again, about Texas joining the SEC, to the program not being “back”, among many other things.

Hopefully, this will be the last of the memes that will be coming the Longhorns way this week. We can’t keep going through these inexcusable meltdowns when Texas should be winning games and moving this program in the right direction. Sark and his coaching staff just are not heading into the bye week on any sort of positive note.

After the loss to Oklahoma State on the late morning/afternoon of Oct. 16, Texas carries a record of 4-3 (2-2 Big 12) into the first bye week of the season. Next up for Sark and the Longhorns out of the bye week is a tough road meeting with the Baylor Bears on Oct. 30.
