Texas football making a ‘late push’ with 4-Star OT Kam Dewberry
There are only a few more months until this cycle is officially rounded out for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. And there are less than two months until the arrival of the Early Signing Period in December. That makes these next few weeks on the recruiting trail critical for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff.
Among all of the Texas assistants, the one that probably found the hottest stretch on the recruiting trail since late in the summer is new defensive line coach Bo Davis. Since the end of the offseason, Davis and the Longhorns have caught fire on the recruiting trail landing commits along the defensive line.
Texas has landed commitments from the likes of four-star defensive linemen/edge rushers J’mond Tapp, Jaray Bledsoe, Justice Finkley, and more, since late August. Defensive line looks to be far and away the strongest and deepest position group in the Longhorns 2022 class at this point. And it will be difficult to reverse that trend.
But it looks like a lot of attention is turning to the offensive line ahead of the Early Signing Period. Texas needs help, especially at the offensive tackle position. One of the top targets to help fill a depth need at offensive tackle in the 2022 class is the touted four-star Atascocita product, Kam Dewberry.
Texas does appear to be headed in the right direction with Dewberry at this point, though. According to a report from Horns247 on Oct. 20 (paid content), Texas and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood are making a solid “late push” to try and land a commitment from Dewberry.

Dewberry is reportedly considering either the Longhorns or Alabama Crimson Tide for where he will take his final visit this fall during a game weekend. But this Horns247 piece does mention that Dewberry is likely leaning to take his final visit with Texas over Alabama.
He was on campus for a visit back in September for the season opener against Louisiana. But that was a pretty impromptu visit at the time.
If Texas could get the final visit with Dewberry this fall, that would be a huge development. Getting the final word in a recruitment as open as Dewberry’s would be massive for Texas.
The last visit that Dewberry had with the Longhorns, besides the one for the season opener last month, was unofficial back on June 12. Since that time, he’s taken visits with the Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas A&M Aggies. It also looks like the LSU Tigers are still involved in his recruitment. Granted, that could be shaky now following the agreement between LSU and head coach Ed Orgeron to part ways at the end of the season.
Texas doesn’t have any commits that play at offensive tackle currently in the Longhorns 2022 class. Landing someone like Dewberry, or being able to flip the commitment of five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks from the Oregon Ducks would be tremendous.
