Jeff Banks, ST Coordinator/TE Coach

As the first of two Texas assistants who could land a head coaching job by the time next offseason arrives on this list, new special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks is a name to watch on the coaching carousel. The former Alabama Crimson Tide special teams coordinator and recruiting specialist is very well respected around the college football landscape.

Hiring Banks was one of the most impressive additions Sark had to his coaching staff this year. Banks was one of the truly elite recruiters in the SEC, and he’s looking to bring that presence to the Longhorns staff on the trail.

Texas should also do well recruiting at the tight end position, as well as developing them, as long as Banks is on this staff. He’s also already played an integral role in landing quite a few of the top commits in the Longhorns 2022 class. Banks was one of the top recruiters going after key commits such as four-star Tyler Legacy running back Jamarion Miller, four-star Aledo safety Bryan Allen Jr., and four-star Spearman wideout Brenen Thompson, among others.

The first job that would obviously come to mind in connection with Banks would be the head coach opening with Washington State. Banks played his college ball at Wazzu, in the mid-to-late 1990s as a punter. And his first FBS staffer job was with Wazzu in 1998 and 1999 as a graduate assistant.

It will be interesting to see if Banks makes it to an interview process with Wazzu this fall, as they try to fill the void left by the recently departed head coach Nick Rolovich. Banks is a common name that comes to mind in the discussion of potential candidates to be the next Wazzu head coach.
