An emerging goal for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class of late was targeting a second quarterback along with four-star Junipero Serra product Maalik Murphy. Texas has long held a commitment from the California native Murphy in the 2022 class. But the outlook for the 2022 class at the quarterback position took a turn of late with the coaching staff now apparently going after more depth in this spot.

Sark and the Longhorns are now going to put a lot of effort and attention into trying to get the four-star Corner Canyon quarterback and USC Trojans commit Devin Brown flipped to Texas. With the departure of now-former USC head coach Clay Helton earlier this fall, it looks like the recruitment of Brown is pretty open.

While Brown has not officially announced his de-commitment from USC, it might only be a matter of time before that comes to fruition. And Texas is one of the schools really pushing to flip his commitment at this point of the fall.

Texas football has Steve Sarkisian visiting 4-Star QB Devin Brown this weekend

Texas looks to squarely be zoning in on the recruitment of Brown this weekend. As Sark and the Longhorns are on a bye week following two tough straight losses at the hands of the Oklahoma schools, the attention turns to the recruiting trail this weekend.

According to a report confirmed by 247Sports this week, Texas will have Sark and first-year quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee visiting Brown out on the west coast this weekend. That is one of a number of coach visits for the Longhorns staff.

Brown is the main prospect that Milwee and Sark will be visiting this weekend too. There will be some other California prospects that Sark goes to see this weekend, but Brown looks to be the main point of emphasis.

Texas is also set to host Brown on an official visit next month. Sark and the Longhorns have Brown on the books for an official visit on Nov. 13, the weekend of the Kansas Jayhawks game. While that might not be a competitive game for the Longhorns, it should still be a fun late-season atmosphere at DKR.

If Texas could manage to flip the commitment of the California native Brown from USC, it would be the second blue-chip in the 2022 class. That would be big, considering the coaching staff doesn’t seem to love the depth situation in the quarterback room at the moment.
