Heading into the regular season next month for new head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program, there is a lot of excitement about what’s to come. No. 5 ranked Texas men’s hoops has one of the most talented rosters in recent memory for that program. And that says a lot given the fact that former Texas head coaches Shaka Smart and Rick Barnes put together some very talented rosters during their time on the Forty Acres for the last two decades or so.

The problem for the likes of Smart and Barnes with the Longhorns was the fact that they couldn’t really convert on all of the talent in the program during their tenures here. That is where the hiring of the former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Beard comes into play.

The goal for Beard is to do exactly what the likes of Barnes (at least in his later years on the Forty Acres) and Smart couldn’t. Get the Longhorns to the postseason and make some magical runs once they get there.

Chris Beard and Texas basketball have some NBA talents on the roster this season

Beard and the Longhorns don’t have to win the National Championship right away. But showing signs of progress in this men’s hoops program is something that has to show almost immediately. Texas has too good of a roster not to find some level of heightened postseason success during the 2021-22 campaign.

Hitting the NCAA Transfer Portal is a route that Beard took to help make an immediate splash as the Longhorns head coach. He hauled in multiple key additions out of the transfer portal during the offseason. And some look to have an NBA future.

Here’s a look into three NBA-caliber transfers that Beard was able to haul in for the Longhorns this offseason.
